Naters Church Tower

by the architect Ulrich Ruffiner
The church tower is said to date back to the 12th century and was built in a Romanesque style. The gothic church spire is attributed to Ulrich Ruffiner. He built it in 1514, at the same time, as the Ossuary. The year of construction can also be seen inscribed above the tower clock. In the years 1977-1980, the church and its spire underwent a complete renovation.
The Bodmer brothers, from the neighboring Prismell, built the present spacious parish church with the impressive vestibule in the years 1659-1664. Georg Michel Supersaxo founded the main portal. It consists of bluish soap stone, which was extracted from the “Massaegga” quarry.
