The Suspension Bridge

A spectacular route across the 124 metre long suspension bridge from the Belalp to the Riederalp, or the other way around.

The hiking trail with the suspension bridge was newly opened on 12 July 2008. It leads from the Hotel Belalp, down the “Steigle”, to the “Aletschji”. From there, it goes to the “Leng Acker” and the old glacier ascent, until it reaches the suspension bridge. The suspension bridge is 124 m long and crosses the 80 m deep Massa gorge – thrills are guaranteed. The suspension bridge is located before the glacier mouth of the Great Aletsch Glacier. Once you’ve crossed the bridge, there are two ways to get to the Riederfurka. One leads past the “Grünsee” lake to the “Teife Wald” forest, and from there to the Riederfurka. The other one goes from the “Grünsee” past the “Silbersand”. Both trails lead through the Aletsch forest, which is under protection by Pro Natura. With these two beautiful areas connected, and the almost continuous view of the Great Aletsch Glacier, your hearts will surely beat faster. A unique nature experience. It is accessible in the summer months.
