The Naters Linden Tree

The reformer Martin Luther once wrote: “Let us sing, drink, dance and make merry under the Linden tree.”

Underneath the more than 600 year old Naters Linden (according to the village chronicle since 1375), courts used to be held as well. Next to the hollow tree, the medieval pillory was located. Right there, next to the church, culprits used to be punished. The stone foundation of this torture instrument is still visible today.
