The Wichje bakehouse dates from the turn of the century and was built by Johann Eggel-Zenklusen. He was a mountain farmer and, like most of his contemporaries, led a nomadic life: from Naters to Blatten, then up to Belalp and back in autumn. He did his baking on the side. He was supported by his sons Leopold, Alois and Ignaz. His daughters Karoline and Marie also understood the trade. Karoline married Hölzer Benjamin, who later acquired and ran the mill and the bakehouse.
The bakehouse in Blatten can still be fully used and visited today. Immerse yourself in the world of rye bread baking and discover a traditional craft.
