PARISH CHURCH AND CHURCH TOWER
==============================

- Historical site
- Church

Die Kirche zu Ehren des heiligen Mauritius wurde im Jahre 1675 eingeweiht.

Der Kirchturm wurde bereits im 12. Jahrhundert erbaut.

The parish church in Naters is dedicated to Saint Mauritius.

 The church in honour of Saint Mauritius was consecrated in 1675. The church tower is said to have been built as early as the 12th century.

**An eventful (building) history**

The cloister leads to the richly gilded high altar (1667) with a beautiful depiction of the Last Supper by Hans Studer. The Gothic spire is attributed to Ulrich Ruffiner.

The side altars form an impressive front at the end of the choir and the beginning of the nave. The baroque cross altar (1683) on the inside right was created by an Italian sculptor, while the altar of St Sebastian opposite was carved by Johann Ritz from Selkingen. The Trinity altar on the outer left and the rosary altar on the outer right were altered during the restoration.

A magnificent pulpit rises in front of the left side altars. Since the new liturgy, it has become more of a museum object, as the word of God is proclaimed from the altar. The mighty church organ stands on the gallery. Under the hands and feet of an expert, the acoustic church is filled with music that forms a sublime whole with the architecture, painting and sculpture.

**The church spire by architect Ulrich Ruffiner**

The Gothic spire is attributed to Ulrich Ruffiner. He built it at the same time as the ossuary in 1514. The year can also be read above the tower clock. The church and tower were completely restored between 1977 and 1980.
In the years 1659-1664, the Bodmer brothers from neighbouring Prismell built the current, spacious parish church with its imposing narthex. Georg Michel Supersaxo donated the main portal. It is made of bluish Giltstein, which was extracted from the "Massegga".
