Shepherd's weekend

Every year on the last weekend in August, the inhabitants of Naters celebrate the well-known "Schäful" on the Belalp. The sheep, which have spent the summer at the back of the Aletschji, head back down into the valley. Guests can look forward to a traditional ramen programme with a yodelling mass, fine Valais specialities and lots of Ländler music which invites you to dance.
 

Procedure

The sheep will be herded from the Aletschji to the Aletschbord by the Sanner on Saturday. On arrival at the top, they will be warmly welcomed by the numerous guests. Later in the afternoon, the animals are driven to the Färricha. These are walled sheep enclosures. On Sunday, the sheep are separated so that each farmer can see whether all his sheep have made it back.
