A museum of a special kind. The "Simplonfestung" above Naters provides an unforgettable impression of those ominous times. It shows the unbroken will of the army and the Swiss people to defend themselves. The Second World War is also omnipresent in the historic tunnels and can still be felt.

The secret of the artillery fort

It is Switzerland's second fortress experience, created in the once top-secret artillery fort of Naters. Former fortress guards, militia officers and soldiers of the Swiss army reveal the secret of the artillery fortress. The existing museum of the "Simplonfestung" is being expanded step by step.

Second World War

Visitors experience at first hand the army positions at the outbreak of war, the retreat of the Swiss army into the Reduit and the former armament.

With the newly introduced guest card, admission to the "Festungsmuseum" is free of charge.

Without guided tour:
The museums in the Simplon Fortress can be visited on Saturdays from June to October between 14.00 and 17.00.

With guided tour:
Guided tours for groups of ten or more people are available daily throughout the year on request. (Museum Simplon Fortress or Gardemuseum or Strahlermuseum)
