Tennis court
For the English guests, a tennis court was built at the Aletschbord at the beginning of the 20th century.
The historic tennis court is located in an almost unbelievable position at 2,130 m above sea level. It gave tennis players an impressive view of the Great Aletsch Glacier.

The tennis court  was built at the beginning of the 20th century for the mainly English guests on the Aletschbord directly next to the Hotel Belalp. As a consequence of the Second World War, however, the guests stopped coming. The tennis court fell into oblivion, the alpine pasture overgrew the court.

Rediscovery

On 23 August 2012, the historic tennis court of the Hotel Belalp was awarded the distinction of being the "most beautiful tennis court in the world". It was the provisional conclusion of the "ambrüf" project by student Franziska Schnell of the Master's degree programme in Art at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, in which a worldwide competition had been launched to find the answer to this question.

In painstaking detail, she had uncovered the boundaries of the old tennis court so that, on the occasion of the presentation of the certificate, a tennis match could be played in style at over 2,000 metres above sea level.
