kulturbärg: klangland unplugged Folk Festival

03.08.2024
On 3 August, it's "klangland" again, the folk music festival of a different kind. Music groups will be discovered and heard at various corners and places in and around Blatten.
The musical program is stylistically open and diverse, but always rooted in folk music. Featured acts include a flamenco ensemble, the group "Exquisicion," Simone Felber's "iheimisch," and the Swiss-German rock group "Ash-Lee." In the afternoon, the duo "Xenegugeli" will perform especially for children and families.
After the outdoor tour, all groups will perform again in the evening on the stage in the concert tent. Food and drinks will be available, providing an opportunity to wind down the day together.

Artist Presentations:

"Duo Xenegugeli" with Roland Zoss: Children's concert

Roland Zoss sings and plays the Swiss animal alphabet classics, taking both young and old into the magical land of childhood. Accompanied by Pirate Toni Tortuga on the electric guitar, bass, and mandolin, Zoss guides us through the animal alphabet with finesse, dancing through it in the Igeli Tango and swimming with dolphins. Mouse Jimmy-Flitz rocks the mammoths in the ice age. Twenty-five years after its release, the animal songs and picture album "Xenegugeli" can be considered classics in Switzerland. Zoss's charming masterpiece has won multiple awards. The learning app was highly recommended by the German Youth Institute!

Simone Felber's "iheimisch"

Simone Felber's "iheimisch" is the main and heartfelt project of one of the prominent and controversial voices of the new Swiss folk music. Together with renowned instrumentalists Rafael Jerjen (double bass), Polina Niederhäuser (cello), and Adrian Würsch (Schwyzerörgeli), the yodeler, songwriter, and choir conductor explores the potentials of New Folk. In the new program "totätanz," the ensemble tackles a universal but taboo topic: our own mortality. "iheimisch" addresses this dark subject with ease, crafting sophisticated contemporary folk music about death and our relationship with it.

"Exquisicion" (with Jonas Imhof)

EXQUISICION is a Swiss ensemble at the intersection of jazz, folklore, and contemporary music. The quartet has been working together for many years. In 2020, they compiled their work on a CD titled "Conquistador," merging jazz with music from the Alpine region, the Orient, and Africa. Combining brass with percussion, they delve into the origins of music: voice and rhythm. As archaic and comforting as it sounds, their music offers diverse possibilities in terms of freedom of play and interaction. Building on a natural aesthetic, EXQUISICION explores the relationship between traditional and secular music, between the material and the ethereal, between familiarity and openness. Insights from ancient musical cultures flow into musically liberated spaces, serving as both foundation and inspiration.

Pascal Walpen: Trumpet, Flugelhorn
Stéphane Métrailler: Tuba
Rafael Schilt: Tenor saxophone, clarinet
Jonas Imhof: Drums

"Encuentro" flamenco group

With: Ladina Bucher: Dance, Regula Küffer: Flute, Nick Perrin: Guitar, Antonio Schiavano: Bass

Three versatile musicians from Bern collaborate with the Zurich dance artist Ladina Bucher. Together, they embark on a journey between tradition and modernity, choreography and interaction, interpretation and improvisation, based on Nick Perrin's compositions.

Ash-Lee - Gäng no uf dr Gass

The Swiss band Ash-Lee deconstructs songs by well-known artists in their new program, reassembling them into new compositions and transforming them into lively stories in Swiss-German dialect. And who knows, perhaps the Ash-Lees will also bring a sample of their own musical cheese to Blatten. Then, in addition to eyes, ears, and spirit, the palate would also be delighted.

Beat Aeschlimann: Vocals & Stories
Marisa Widmer: Vocals
Christoph Käser: Guitar, Vocals
Beat Fuhrimann: Bass
Andi Leu: Cajon, Drums
