Belalp Witches' Downhill

The organizer of the Belalp Hexe is the association Belalp Hexe.

The Belalp Hexe is a folk ski race that was created in 1983. The start is at Hohstock (3'118 m above sea level) and the finish in Blatten (1'322 m above sea level).

For organizational reasons, the number of participants in the category "Witches" will be limited to 1'000.

For racers there is no limitation of participants.

In case of extraordinary conditions, the organizing committee can change the route.

The route is partly identical to the existing ski slope. However, this will not be specially prepared.

Length: 12 km

Start: 3'100 m a.s.l.

Finish: 1'300 m a.s.l.

Altitude difference: 1'800 m

The race course for the Witch Downhill is marked from Thursday. It will remain open for viewing until Friday at 15:00. Racing training is prohibited. Failure to comply with this order will result in disqualification!

From Friday 15:00h until the start of the race the track is closed for all participants.

Passing through the control gates is obligatory. 8 to 16 control gates are set. Additional control gates are set only when safety requires it. (Control gates: RED - directional gates: BLUE).

For the route from Tätschen to the finish in Blatten the road is mandatory.
Unclear places will be additionally monitored by marshals.

When waving the black flag, the participants are obliged to slow down the ride strongly. Failure to comply will result in disqualification!

The instructions of the marshals must be strictly followed. The participants are obliged to adapt their speed to the conditions and to drive on sight. In all other respects, the general FIS rules apply, in particular FIS rule no. 2 (control of speed and skiing style).

Wearing a crash helmet (BFU tested) is mandatory for all participants, including those in disguise.

Compliance with the helmet requirement will be checked at the start. Only participants with skis will be admitted. The race must be completed with both skis, which may be strapped on or carried to the finish.

The start numbers must be worn visibly during the race. Registrations received after December 01 cannot be guaranteed the personal imprint of the name.

The collection of the material is only possible with the start number.

Devices which can start moving independently (sledges or similar vehicles) are not allowed.

If possible, the starting numbers will be allocated on the basis of the best result achieved in the last 3 years (overall ranking list women and men).

The last 30 start numbers of the start list will start as star riders at the beginning of the race.

The start number allocation will be done by Datasport. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the allocation of start numbers.

Participants who dress up as witches are called "witches". All participants of a witch group start together. The witch groups start after the racers. The number of participants in the category witches is limited to 1'000 starting places. The allocation of the starting places will be done by the organizing committee.

Participants in disguise who register in the wrong category (not category witches) will not be admitted to the start.

Participants of both categories will be disqualified if

a) the start is made under a false name
b) the control gates (RED) are not crossed
c) the instructions of the marshals are not followed
d) the waving of the black flag is not respected
e) no helmet is worn
f) they do not respect these regulations
g) they register in the wrong category (witches/racers)

The organizing committee of the Belalp Hexe (Belalp Hexe Association) declines any liability towards all participants/competitors as well as towards spectators for damages caused by participants/competitors or by auxiliary persons. Likewise, the Organizing Committee of the Belalp Witch declines any liability for any fault. The insurance coverage against accident and liability is the responsibility of each participant.

The race office is located opposite the valley station of Belalp Bahnen AG.

The race office will be open from Thursday evening to Saturday morning (16th - 18.01.25). The exact opening hours will be communicated in due course.
