Schäful

Every year in late summer, the inhabitants of Naters celebrate the well-known "Schäful" on the Belalp. The sheep that have spent the summer in the inner Aletschji return to Belalp.

On Saturday, the sheep are herded from the Aletschji to the Aletschbord by the Sanners. Once they reach the top, they are warmly welcomed by the numerous guests. Later in the afternoon, the animals are brought to the "Färricha". These are walled sheep enclosures. For the guests present, there is fine, traditional food and lots of music, ant the evening dance is a cosy way to end the day.

On Sunday, the sheep are separated to that each farmer can see whether all his sheep have made it back. Guests can enjoy a traditional meat soup with bread and cheese at the "Lüsga".
